Section History Materials
The Rocky Mountain Section was founded in 1917. Originally it consisted of the states of Wyoming and Colorado. Sometime in the late 1940s or early 1950s, institutions in Utah also began to be included. These were split off in 1975 as the Intermountain Section. (See the history page of the Intermountain Section for a brief description of the split.) Also sometime in the 1950s, institutions in the western part of South Dakota began to be included, and are still part of the section.
The national MAA was founded in 1915. Information about the history of the national MAA can be found at the national MAA website.
